In this weeks show Penny and I were surrounded by a selection of Bavaria's finest as BMW owners descended on Gaydon in Warwickshire for the annual BMW Festival.

The first cars to catch my eye were a pair of lovely 'M' series classics, a rare left hand drive M3 and an immaculate M5. The incredible thing about cars like this is that if they are looked after properly they can look as good after 15 years as they did the day they left the factory. Compared to the latest 300bhp and 400bhp offerings from BMW they may not seem that powerful but these cars come from an age when cars were very much lighter so performance is still pretty vivid. If you are looking for a practical future classic you'll bound to be impressed with what we turned up on the day!

If an 'M' series BMW isn't exclusive enough for you then the Alpina models that were on show will probably fit the bill. The German tuning company Alpina takes standard BMW's off the production line and then turns them in to something very special. The list of modifications is virtually endless, larger engines, performance tuned suspension, re-trimmed interiors and even double glazed windows adorn the top spec models. All that work bumps the list price up and you can spend £100,000 on one of these beauties when it's new, but the great news is that they do depreciate. We found a used 7-Series that could save you £70,000 on its original list price, quite a saving I think you will agree.
