The tractor-driving son of a farmer tried to outrun police in his agricultural automobile.

Thomas Kirkham, who was drunk at the time, was told to pull over by police who were flashing their blue light at him, the Wigan Observer reports.

After being pursued for some time, the Wigan man drove the tractor - which was pulling a plough - through a fence and into a field.

Police officers could not remove the drunk driver from the vehicle and resorted to using CS gas. However, Kirkham did not come quietly, with one officer sustaining a broken hand.

Speaking at Wigan Magistrates Court, prosecutor Katie McFarlane stated that spraying the gas in the man's face appeared to have no effect.

He managed to continue powering the vehicle and tried to ram it at the officers, who leaped to safety.

Kirkham was given a four-month sentence, suspended for two years, in addition to fines and unpaid work.
