A Canadian man who was found drunk behind the wheel of a stolen forklift truck has been imprisoned by police.

The 31-year-old from Nova Scotia was found to have made off with the forklift truck before motoring through the town of Truro at about 01:30 am local time, cnews.canoe.ca reports.

When he was caught by police, Craig Alan Gidney was found to have 47 criminal convictions and to have been banned from driving.

He pleaded guilty to a number of charges, including theft, impaired driving and assaulting a police officer. He has since received a five-year driving ban and must serve a six-month jail term.

Meanwhile, English Paul Jackson from Peterborough, aged 38, was recently given a prison sentence after being caught drunk behind the wheel seven times, the Evening Telegraph reports.

He cannot quite compete with Gidney's string of convictions, however, totting up 18 in comparison.
