An American firm is planning to smash a land speed record using a motorbike which runs on biodiesel.

Greenline Industries is behind the bike, named Die Moto, which will be on display at the National Biodiesel Conference in San Antonio.

The custom-made bike has already managed to reach speeds of 130mph and is due to officially attempt to break the diesel land speed record in September this year.

Die Moto shouldn't have too much trouble trying to take the record, which currently stands at a lowly 105mph.

"We believe in proving the simple point that diesel fuels are exceptionally efficient in smaller engines, and that biodiesel is the ultimate form of diesel," said Ted Lavoie from Greenline.

"That is why we have sponsored the Earthrace circumnavigation world record attempt, and that is why we are sponsoring the? land speed record attempt."

Lavoie went on to say that his firm are keen to show the world the "performance potential" of biodiesel.
